Transits
Transits refer to the daily motion of the planets in the sky. The relationships that are formed between birth charts, progressed /return charts and transiting planets correlates to an effect , event, or a change in attitude or a situation.
Whatever aspect ( angular distance between two or more planets) is formed will determine such. The distance of separation/ closeness will determine whether it is positive or negative and then as always, the planets houses and signs involved. Transits affect people in different ways and transits alone do not actually cause an event. What a planet in transit does is modify the nature of natal aspects and set timing of progressed chart events . The planets show what drives the native or what obstacles will be relevant and when. Transits can reflect trends in a cycle that can be easily observed. Depending on which planet is transiting , situations or attitudes will be effected for a long duration or just a short period of time.
Speed of transit planets
The moon moves fast so the effect is usually measured by the new and full moons which occur monthly.
The Sun , Venus and Mercury have a two day influence so they act as triggers for events or significators of daily experiences.
Mars’ influences last about four days and it prompts action.
Jupiter’s influence last about 25 days .These are periods of peace, reward and urges to expand.
Saturn (who has a long shadow period) influence is about two months. It marks a time of accomplishments , ambitions or restrictions.
The Outer Planets (Uranus, Neptune and Pluto) move so slow that their influence can last from one to three years. They influence major changes in the life.
Planet Cycles
By tracking the transits a greater perspective is gained. A big picture view of the influences of the environment and the nature of the planets as they aspect natal planets(or other charts). Planets do not make decisions ,people do. So , regardless of any influence present , People take action and make choices . The planets , an aspect or the transits themselves do not. Due to the motion of planets their cycles are set and we can coordinate them with age. For example you have your first Jupiter return at age 12, the Saturn Square about age 22, Uranus opposition at about age 42 and Neptune Square at age 44.
What the planets are symbolic of
The Sun is a the significator of will and ego identity . Wherever the Sun is transiting will stand out.Themes of that sign will be in play.
Mercury is a significator of making decisions , the thought process, communication and transportation.
Venus is the significator of who and what we love, artistic endeavors, and money.
Mars is the significator of Drive energy and action. impulsivity and aggression are also gifts from Mars.
Jupiter is a significator of expansion education philosophy joy and luck.
Saturn is the significator of hard work, discipline , responsibility or limitations and restrictions.
Uranus is a significator of change, unexpected chaos and freedom.
Neptune is a significator of idealism, imagination & dreams or illusion , deception and escapism.
Pluto is significator of loss, power, control, death and regeneration.
Angles formed by planets in transit
The aspects created during the transit will create a specific dynamic.
Conjunction: Opportunity to utilize the best nature of planets involved.
Semi sextile: right place right time
Sextile: a chance to get what’s needed
Trine: Rapid development of a situation or removal of obstacles.
Semi Square : frustration of action that leads to a null result.
Square :nobody’s fault but you’re forced to take a different type of action
Sesquisquare : Frustration of action that eventually leads to a delayed achievement
Inconjunct : Forced into a new situation, change, release or letting go.
Opposition: someone or something causes you to make a decision.
Transits do not work alone
In order for a transit to affect the outcome of an event a natal planet and a progressed or return planet must be within orb or otherwise activated. Ingresses and stations can activate planets and houses as well.
